Roanoke’s Visitor Center and Museum in the restored Rock Building (originally the 1886 Silver Spur Saloon) is often a visitor’s first stop in this historic town. Roanoke is a community rich with activities. The City of Roanoke was officially appointed by the Texas House of Representatives as The Unique Dining Capital of Texas! The large number of independent restaurants up and down historic Oak Street helped earn those honors. You could also say that Roanoke is a food capital due to it being home to several major food distribution centers including Tom Thumb Food & Pharmacy, United Supermarkets and Martin-Bower--a major supplier to restaurant chains around the world.

The historic area of Roanoke serves as the backdrop for free concerts throughout the summer at Austin Street Place and the 3rd Rocks Independence Day Celebration. Spring brings about the Bunny Hop & Hunt, and the Revin' Up Roanoke downtown dining, music and celebration event. The Roanoke Famers Market is open April through September. Celebrate ROANOKE! is yet another fun-filled downtown event held in the fall. And of course, the Old Fashioned Christmas events and parade are a community favorite. The city also offers six parks with a variety of amenities for public recreation, including Ronaoke Community Park, where the Annual Kids Fishing Day event is held. Locals also enjoy a state of the art Recreation Center, which offers plenty of activities for everyone
